Dr. Juan Antonio Pe\u00f1a graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 1992 and has been a specialist in Urology since 1998 after completing his training as a resident doctor at the Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona. He is also accredited with a University Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery by the University of Strasbourg and as a consul surgeon in da Vinci robotic surgery (Intuitive).<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Pe\u00f1a was one of the pioneer urologists in laparoscopic surgery in our country. Currently his activity and main area of interest, focuses on minimally invasive oncological urological surgery (laparoscopy and robotics). He has published multiple articles and book chapters related to the subject, as well as participated as a speaker or surgeon in numerous courses.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

He began his activity as a Urologist at the Institut Catala d’Urologia i Nefrologia (ICUN) (1999-2004), combining this activity with the position of assistant of Urology at the General Hospital of Granollers. Later, he was an assistant emergency physician at the Vall d’Hebron Hospital until 2005, combining this activity with that of assistant doctor of Urology at the Corporaci\u00f3 Sanit\u00e0ria Parc Tauli Sabadell until 2007 and as Assistant of Urology at the Fundaci\u00f3 Puigert in Barcelona, in the UroOncology unit.<\/span><\/p>\n

He is director of the Training Course of the Spanish National Congress on Extraperioneal Access in Urological Laparoscopy. He is also a member of the following scientific societies: European Association of Urology, Spanish Association of Urology, Societat Catalana d’Urologia and, since 2009, he is Corresponding Academician of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia.<\/span><\/p>\n

He has been awarded and nominated on several occasions: Best Communication in the Interhospital Session of Residents of the Catalan Society of Urology (1998); best poster of the IX National Congress of Urology; Doctor Antoni Puigvert y Gorro Award from the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia (2008), Silver Cystoscopy Award for the best communication of the National Meeting of Lithiasis, Endourology and Urological Laparoscopy of the Spanish Association of Urology (2009). Award for the best video communication of urology of the XI National Congress SECLA 2012, Joan Figols Award to the surgical technical millor presented in video of the Societat Catalana d’Urologia (2009 and 2012), Annals d’Urologia Award for the best scientific work published: Societat Catalana d’Urologia 2012. Professor Dr. Antonio Puigvert Award for the best urological research work (basic or clinical) of the American Confederation of Urology presented at the 2013 congress.<\/span><\/p>\n

Currently and since 2005, on leave from his work in the Oncology Unit of the Fundac\u00f3 Puigvert, he combines his current position as Director and co-founding partner of Uros Associats (private urology service) together with Dr. Salinas, with the position of associate professor of Urology at the International University of Catalonia. He is a yacht captain.<\/span><\/p>\n

In June 2023 he completed the General Management Program<\/strong>\u00a0 IESE 2022-2023 and is a member of IESE Alumini<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
